7th Grade English Language Arts

In ELA, students are encouraged to read each weeknight for 20 to 30 minutes or 60 minutes a week.

You only build reading skills IF you are reading! In our screen-driven world, it is vital that your child build reading skills now.

We start the class with a warm-up designed to spiral the ELA standards. It is called Chomp and 5-A-Day Language Review. The Chomp targets key reading and writing standards and the 5-A-Day Language Review targets the grammar and Language standards of the Georgia Standards of Excelence.

Our ELA standards can be found on the following link: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Pages/ELA-6-8.aspx

The Milestone Study Guide for parents and students can be found on my "FORMS" page or here:

7th Grade Social Studies

My first class, 7.1, is social studies. We start class by watching a student-friendly newscast called CNN 10. The students are required to write a short reflection on the broadcast in their notebook. Many times, we have class discussions over the broadcast because it covers the standards that we are working on or will cover soon. Our standards and more information about education in Georgia can be found on the following link:  https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Pages/Social-Studies.aspx
